A cool photographer Dustin Jensen from San Francisco uploaded really nice pictures of my performance outside the art exhibition of the SF bicycle film festival on SFwiggle. Thank you Dustin! Here are two of his pictures:

Pictures of Ines in SF
Sonntag, Juli 27th, 2008Tianjin
Sonntag, Juni 29th, 2008For a visit to Tianjin I took the currently fastest train which takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. For the Olympics there will be the really fast train in operation which will take only 30 minutes for this route. At train stations in China you cannot just walk in and go to the platform. You need to wait in the waiting hall or at the entrance to the platform and only get admitted about 15 minutes before take-off and only with a valid ticket. It was quite crowded in Beijing so I do understand that it probably is safer this way.
I took my trick bike and met the crew from Tianjin TV who filmed me riding my trick bike in Tianjin for their program Right Here.
Bike Festival in Yanqing 自行车市民骑行活动在八达岭
Samstag, Juni 14th, 2008I was requested to perform at a „bicycle city resident bike ride activity“ North of Beijing near the Badaling Great Wall in a small town called Yanqing. This event was a GREEN event to promote bike riding as good for health and to emphasize Green Olympics (environmentally friendly Beijing Olympic Games 2008). As the bike festival started early we had to get there already on Friday (the 13th – the day my boss told me that he leave) and stay at a farmer’s place.
There was a nice map of all the farmers places (note the English translation on the left side: „The view area flat surface indicates diagram“. Not sure what that means.)
Foreigners have to be registered at the local police station for every night they stay in China. So the local police man came to the farmer’s house to check our passport and visa. I really liked the posters on the door of our room as well as on the walls:
The ceremony for the green bike event was the next morning. There were some speeches, flatland BMX guys did a short show and then I did a trick bike performance on the wet ground. But at least there was no rain when I was performing. After my performance it started to drizzle again and the bike ride with about 400 riders from Beijing and Yanqing started. Here is a link to all the pictures.
The big wall for the ceremony had a nice picture of four cyclists. And all four look the same and are in the same position and wear identical clothes (well except the helmet color). And the words „Giant“ on the pants are written in reverse. As well as the number which is on the handlebar which again is the same (and in reverse) for all cyclists. 😉 And the street looks so real.
Green Cycling TV Show with Bike Performance 伊泉 室内自行车表演
Donnerstag, Juni 5th, 2008The cycling event of Radio Beijing (RBC) ended with a recording of a 90 min TV show. Each cycling group came on stage and had somebody do something special, like sing or play an instrument. In between they had various singers and a Kungfu group.
For our group I performed with my trick bike. It was a little bit tricky on the glass floor. 绿色的伊泉的自行车特技表演
The show will be broadcasted in
Then we again had a dinner and took more pictures. And again I had to drink more baijiu than expected – but at least much better one than the common Erguotou.
Radio Qinhuangdao Ceremony
Sonntag, Juni 1st, 2008For this “green” bike event we had a ceremony in
There were less bicycle enthusiasts attending than in
In the evening there was a beautiful sunset. It was nice to see that most houses had the solar water heaters on the roofs. And you could see the mountain range in the west – the direction that we will be heading tomorrow by bicycle.
Zhou and Ines Doing Tricks on Bicycles
Montag, Mai 26th, 2008Yesterday I met with the Chinese bike performer Zhou. He showed me his tricks (Click here to see the video of his performance) and I showed him mine on my artistic bike and then we did some tricks together (Click here to see the video of us doing the Saddle Handlebar stand together).
A Beijing Evening Newspaper reporter and a photographer came and asked Zhou some questions. Today there was this article in the Beijing Evening News
His friends had self built bikes. This was the first time I meet Chinese that have interest in making these kind of cool bicycles. I have heard of some foreigners who visited Beijing with tall bikes and other strange bicycle. But it is great to know that there is a bicycle cult scene starting to grow in Beijing.
Radio Beijing „Presentation of Colors Ceremony“
Samstag, Mai 17th, 2008As mentioned Radio Beijing is arranging an event for promoting bicycling. As I have been chosen to ride from the Olympic City Qinhuangdao to Beijing I was invited to participate in a ceremony at the Deshengmen Tower in Beijing.
The below picture shows part of the group of people that will ride form the 5 different Olympic cities to Beijing (7 of us on this picture wearing the blue and white cycling clothes)
Just before the „Presentation of Colors“ ceremony began it started raining so everybody had to take shelter. Luckily it was over in 30min. I was supposed to perform trick on my trick bike but as everything was wet it was not so easy. I just did some tricks on the stage till my tires started slipping. In the end various bike enthusiasts had their pictures taken with me. I only took a few pictures there.
Beijing Radio Green Bicycle Games 2008
Samstag, April 26th, 2008As posted the Beijing Radio is organizing a GREEN event to promote bicycling in China versus other transportation methods. In order to be selected to join this big event it is required to participate in some bike related games. At least that was I was told before the games.
So yes I did participate in the fun games today even though they were not all related to bikes. We had to do track stands on cheap small wheeled bicycles, had to carry as many boxes of milk while running backwards over a small balance beam, had to ride cheap small wheeled bicycles slalom around 3 boxes of milk, had to blow as many small balloons as possible and answer questions related to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
And in between there were Chinese singers to make the crowd coming out of the shopping mall happy.
You can have a look at more pictures if you click here. They had asked if I can do some tricks on my bike so I did that at the end as well. Click here for more pictures of this event.
At least I won the Games. That brings me closer to the goal of being chosen to ride from one of China Olympic Games‘ cities to Beijing as a sign to promote bicycling in China.
Ben (the other half of the Beijing Fixed Gear Group) had come to watch my tricks at the bike games. I then took some pictures of him skidding.
And actually the whole day was quite booked out: A speech training in the morning – participating in the bike games – doing some tricks for the audience at the bike games – riding fixed gear with Ben in the streets and on some urban slopes (but I forgot my camera) – missing out the photo exhibition of a friend of mine in the art district – Chinese barbecue (羊肉串) party in the traditional courtyard of the Hutong School – another Chinese barbecue (羊肉串) party with the Beijing Linux User Group (BLUG).
Here are two beautiful picture Ben took while I was practicing wheelies (I forgot my camera…) while riding our fixed gear through the Central Business District:
Beijing Radio Bicycle Event and Trick Bike Performance
Freitag, April 25th, 2008I have been contacted by the Radio Beijing Co (RBC). They are planning on organizing a big bicycle event in this Olympic year. And for that they are searching for more bicycle lovers or passionate cyclists or people who ride bicycle because they think it is s great thing for our environment. For those of you who can read Chinese, here is a link to this year’s event of Beijing Radio.
They are currently urgently looking for people to participate in fun bike games scheduled on weekends to decide who will be riding from various Olympic locations to Beijing to promote the use of bicycles in China as an alternative transportation method. This weekend the games will be at:
4/26/2008 & 4/27/2008 14:00-17:00 万达广场新世界商场 Wanda Plaza
Me and some friends will participate in the fun games (they provide bicycles for that, you cannot use your own) on Saturday April 26th. So please come by and cheer for us!
Also I do not know exactly what time, but I was asked to give an artistic bicycling performance on my trick bike. So you can also come and watch that some time between 2pm and 5pm at the South side of Wanda Plaza on an open air stage.
Fixed Gear Bike Interview in Magazine
Donnerstag, April 24th, 2008Wow, I did not expect it this big! I was asked some questions from one of the employees of the magazine „That’s Beijing“. They printed pictures of me on my trick bike with an interview in the April 2008 edition that you can get free of charge at many locations around Beijing. If you cannot get a copy: Click here to read the online article.
