Anna’s Birthday Dinner

Samstag, Mai 30th, 2009

Our local theater director and producer as well as actress Anna had invited for her birthday to a vegetarian, or actually vegan restaurant. We had vegan fish, vegan sausages, vegan sweet and sour pork, vegan Beijing Duck amongst other dishes.

If you have a gathering of actors there is always some spontaneous acting. This night is was Anna and Kris performing some funny slow motion fight scenes. This one was Anna smacking a bottle on Kris’s head. But as our experiences Becs commented: „If you ever saw or had been in a London bar fight you would know that you first need to smack the beer bottle on the table so that the glass breaks. It has much more effect smacking the broken bottle then on somebody’s head“.

Ines Brunn Performance for Greener China

Dienstag, Mai 5th, 2009

I found a post on this forum. The person talks about the Beijing Radio and other companies events to promote a more sustainable lifestyle and cycling. It talks about an event on April 26th where I did a trick bike performance for a greener China. Here is the comment:

Orphans Theater Play

Sonntag, April 19th, 2009

Today was the last day of the theater play „Orphans“ presented by the Beijing Actors Workshop (BAW) & Beijing International Theater Experience (BITE) produced by Anna Grace, directed by Peter Walters and staring Kris Chung, Ian Reed and Nick Ma. WOW. That was great acting! It was amazing. A very entertaining play that was professionally presented. I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to their next performances like the Spring Workshop Finale Festival May 14th to 17th (7:30 in Penghao Theater) and Shakespeare’s famous comedy „A Midsummer Night’s Dream“ held June 11-14 and 18-21

Beijing Fixed Gear and Beijing Jugglers at Club Fair

Samstag, März 28th, 2009

This weekend is the CityWeekend Club Fair. All different non profit groups of Beijing were participating in this event and so were we as the Beijing Jugglers Group as well as the Beijing Fixed Gear Bike Group. It was great to see so many friends from the other community clubs. It was great to have Jancy and Peter and Joe and Oli and other friends help at our club table.

Today was also Oli’s birthday. So we bought him a cake:

I had my pink track bike and did some tricks on that fixed gear bike (thanks very much to Jancy for taking these pictures of me):

Dirty Dancing Rehearsal

Dienstag, Februar 3rd, 2009

Anna Grace Carter and Kris Chung are putting on another show gathering the International performing arts community of Beijing. This interactive theater event is based on the 1987 movie „Dirty Dancing“ and has other performers integrated in the show. In the auditions in December I got chosen to play the role of the dance instructor Penny. So the past 10 days I have been rehearing the dancing parts with Johnny and Baby almost every day. Today was the first rehearsal of the whole cast together.

Here is a picture of the rehearsal of the fight scene between the dance instructor Johnny and the resort manager Martin.

Performing Arts

Sonntag, Januar 18th, 2009

My last day in Germany I went to meet two friends from the times we used to get together (artists from the Nuernberg-Erlangen region) every month and put on a variety show called „Vorsicht Variete“. I stopped performing in that group in 1999 or 2000, so I must have not seen them for such a long time. Fritz Mack used to work as an engineer in a big company. He chose to quit his job and become a full time professional artist about 2 years ago. He changed his appearance and enjoys his work as a performing artist. he is multi talented with juggling, unicycling, acrobatics, fire show and clown. It was very nice to see him and talk to him after such a long time. Tatjana Bilenko still is as fit as always and she still is devoted to circus sport doing a lot of trapeze and vertical trapeze. They run the open „Zirkus Labor“ with regular juggling get togethers (Sunday afternoons) and acro balance get togethers (Friday mornings) as well as workshops. On this picture we all look a bit wierd, especially me with my tanned face (but white neck) from the 15 days skiing.

Meeting Old Friends

My mother loves art and design. She holds a lot of painting workshops and also attends many art workshops herself. She is a very creative person. I have some of her work in my apartment. I think a lot of her pictures are really beautiful.

Fixed Gear and Chinese Improv Show

Sonntag, November 2nd, 2008

As the weather was so nice today I spent the afternoon in the park rock climbing. After that I met with 2 friends for bike riding. Unfortunately other fixed gear riders had no time or were injured. We cycled to the Olympic forest hoping that we can ride inside. But it seems to be fenced off really well, the gate closes at 5pm every day and no bikes are allowed inside. We cycled a loop around it on a freshly paved cycling path which suddenly turned dark (it felt like we were outside of Beijing) and then turned onto the 5th ring road (highway). The random bricks or line of bricks with some missing on the side lane of the highway was quite surreal. Then that lane just disappeared and after cycling on a highway kind of street for a bit then suddenly we saw again a beautifully paved bike lane again on the other side of some bushes. We cycled over huge empty Olympic parking lots with great surface for skidding and random small ditches and also some deep and quite wide sudden ditches. I was positively surprised to find out that we could cycle on the Olympic Green and play around on our bikes between the Birds Nest and the Water Cube Olmypic stadiums. That was awesome!

Tonight was the first show of the Chinese Improv Group. They did a great job. Especially the Olympic Ear Wax Pulling Event (last picture) was very funny.

Death Prom Interactive Theater Event

Freitag, Oktober 31st, 2008

Finally it is Halloween! We are hosting the Glendale High School Prom of 1958. The doors open and the big band starts to play some swing music. [All pictures are courtesy of other participants, none of these pictures are mine. A lot of pictures are on facebook]

The principal of the high school is all excited about the prom:

Then I did a special trick cycling performance. I tried to do something in the lines of the deadly topic of this „Death Prom“ using dark music. All these pictures are from fellow actors or audience members. Thanks to all of you. I made a webalbum with those pictures.

Then zombies started showing up.

Unfortunately I had fallen off my bike during the warm up before the show and then the printing company guy came 2 hours too late to bring me my flyers. Other than that I enjoyed the show!
