2nd Day of CityWeekend Club Fair

Sonntag, März 29th, 2009

The second day of the club fair was much colder. But I still decided to set up the table outside instead of hidden indoors, so that more people pass by. It actually did snow a bit when Benno and I were practicing passing.

Beijing Fixed Gear and Beijing Jugglers at Club Fair

Samstag, März 28th, 2009

This weekend is the CityWeekend Club Fair. All different non profit groups of Beijing were participating in this event and so were we as the Beijing Jugglers Group as well as the Beijing Fixed Gear Bike Group. It was great to see so many friends from the other community clubs. It was great to have Jancy and Peter and Joe and Oli and other friends help at our club table.

Today was also Oli’s birthday. So we bought him a cake:

I had my pink track bike and did some tricks on that fixed gear bike (thanks very much to Jancy for taking these pictures of me):

And then Oli performed for the crowds with his contact juggling:

And also he juggled a few (up to 9) balls. All of the pictures are to be found here

Balancing Balls

Montag, Februar 2nd, 2009

Fede is a master of balancing balls on his head. He walks around town like that. Everybody stops and turns to see. At the Beijing Jugglers group workshop he teaches others the basics of balancing balls on your head.

„Biggin‘ it up Beijing-Style“ Party

Samstag, Januar 24th, 2009

Friends and me went to the Japanese bar on 35th floor with the great view over Beijing. It was nice to be there the day before New Years Eve. We could already see some fireworks in various places. That bar not only has a huge selection of mangas but also has a small room you can rent by the hour to play Wii (Nintendo game). We talked about it, but as a juggling friend of mine invited us over for a party, we went there. Sure once in a while somebody would pick up some balls and juggle at the party. But guess what: He had a Wii system because his room mate has a friend that lent it to him for the Chinese New Year week long holiday. So we were actually playing Wii the whole evening while Oli was DJ-ing us some drum and base tunes. First there were the various cute rabit games, then we finally turned to Wii sports. The guys played boxing, then we started tennis. It is really physical and a lot of fun. You start sweating a lot. I understand why people like Wii.

Climbing and Acro Balance

Sonntag, Januar 4th, 2009

Hartmut took me climbing to an indoor wall in Nuernberg: the Climbing Factory. It is a very high wall and most of it is for lead climbing. That is great! There is a lot of overhangs in the routes which I love. The routes are clearly marked by colors and grades, nicely done.

I was happy lead climbing some UIAA 7- and 7 routes (French 6b and 6b+ or USA 5.10c and 5.10d). But then I saw another climber climbing the same routes with ease. I had to talk to him as I was amazed. It turned out that he is 66 years old and started climbing when he was 5. He said he has a friend that is 71 years old and even climbs a UIAA 9 route (French 7b or USA 5.12d). That is a goal for me. I want to be like that when I am older.

After that I went to the Erlangen Juggling Group. I wasn’t juggling at all as Gerhard was there and it is much more fun to do acro balance (partner acrobatics) together with him. He is so stable and just tells me what to do. We finally got the hand on hand to almost work. Even there he keeps his arms so stable despite my right side tilted handstand.

Death Prom Interactive Theater Event

Freitag, Oktober 31st, 2008

Finally it is Halloween! We are hosting the Glendale High School Prom of 1958. The doors open and the big band starts to play some swing music. [All pictures are courtesy of other participants, none of these pictures are mine. A lot of pictures are on facebook]

The principal of the high school is all excited about the prom:

Then I did a special trick cycling performance. I tried to do something in the lines of the deadly topic of this „Death Prom“ using dark music. All these pictures are from fellow actors or audience members. Thanks to all of you. I made a webalbum with those pictures.

Then zombies started showing up.

But after a big battle scene all the zombies were defeated – at least that is what it seemed like at first…

Then it was just party and pictures 🙂

After this very successful interactive theater event our producer Anna seemed to be very re-leaved and danced like crazy.

Unfortunately I had fallen off my bike during the warm up before the show and then the printing company guy came 2 hours too late to bring me my flyers. Other than that I enjoyed the show!

Halloween Event Rehearsal

Mittwoch, Oktober 29th, 2008

The Chinese International Performing Arts organization (CIPA) is organizing this interactive theater event on Halloween. We had a rehearsal in the venue to see how the flow of the „Death Prom“ show would be. Here a picture of our producer Anna Grace and the director/writer Kris Chung:

We are all listening attentively – some of us already in costume:

Then we all received a make-up lesson on how to make us all look deadly or like a zombie:

Then we did the rehearsal of various parts of the show, especially the big deadly ending and the grand finale. Thanks to Coach Riggens for all these great pictures 🙂

Juggling Workshop

Montag, Oktober 6th, 2008

Tonight we had our regular Beijing Jugglers Workshop in Yugong Yishan. I did more balancing than juggling but I did actually practice juggling clubs.

At the end of the Juggling night I realized that I had carried my camera all the way so I decided I needed to take some pictures to make it worth while. So I took pictures of the co-leaders of the Juggling group: Fede and Peter:

GREENing the BEIGE Opening Party

Freitag, Juli 11th, 2008

GREENing the BEIGE event is to create more environmental awarenenss through the means of art and combining it with a lot of fun. The 2008 opening party had a huge variety of interesting things going on. There was a market place with a garage sale and second hand clothes (the money you pay is completely donated to help the Sichuan Earthquake victims), organic food and fresh juices.

The Green Market Place

There was an informative presentation of the Long Green March explaining their nationwide project showing a movie about it.

Beijing Fashion designers organized an eco-minded Fashion Show. Julien and I participated showing teh useof anti-pollution masks in transportation.

Ines and Julien Unicycling with Respro Mask

There was art displayed, photography, pictures, sculptures and video installations. The night continued with well known DJs playing great tunes and Oli juggling with glow balls. He did more than 5 balls but this is one of the nicer pictures I took:
